Infection: If you have symptoms of covid, flu, RSV or other serious infection then please don’t come to Satipanya (even if you are testing negative for covid).
Additional Covid precautions: These restrictions are primarily to protect Bhante and Noirin who are in the vulnerable age group, and any vulnerable retreatants. If the teacher were to contract covid then the retreat would have to be closed and people sent home. So we ask everyone to minimise the risk of covid at Satipanya as follows:
If you don't have covid symptoms now (setting out for Satipanya) but had symptoms or tested positive within past 5 days, or were a close contact within past 10 days then please: (a) do a Rapid Flow test prior to travelling, and only come if test negative; (b) wear a mask in Satipanya (can take off while meditating) until the 10 days is up. Please email [email protected] and leave a message on 01588 650752 if the test is positive and you are unable to come. Please bring some Rapid Antigen tests with you. If anyone tests positive, we would ask them to leave. Otherwise, they will need to isolate at Satipanya. Windows and doors will be opened frequently in the meditation room and all spaces that we use in common. SO BRING PLENTY OF WARM CLOTHES!
Disablities: Please inform us of any disabilities since as yet our facilities are minimal.
Mental Health Issues: Make sure you have informed the retreat teacher of any mental illness you may have or are suffering from for which have received or are receiving medical or psychotherapeutic treatment.
Serious Health Issues / Alergies: Those with a serious health issue such as a severe peanut allergy, need to be aware that:
- Satipanya is in a rural area with no GP on-call service and no one on-site has first-aid or medical training that could help you in an emergency.
- It can take hours for an ambulance to arrive.
- Even if someone is available to drive you to Shrewsbury hospital, the journey takes about 40 minutes or longer depending on traffic, road-works etc.
- If you decide to come despite the associated risk, you must bring all the emergency medication you might need. For those with severe allergy, you must bring at least two EpiPens if you have been prescribed these, preferably three or more, as well as steroids and antihistamines and any other medications you have been prescribed.
- You should also be aware that peanut butter and peanuts are part of our staples. If someone informs us of a severe peanut allergy and is coming on a short (e.g. one week) retreat, we can arrange not to serve these during the week, but it will not be possible to remove all traces of peanuts from the premises.
Satipanya cannot take any responsibility for any accidental personal physical injury sustained during your stay.
Health and Safety rules prohibit us from offering medicines - even aspirin! Please bring your own medicines, if you think you may need some.
While at the centre, please do not light any candles or incense.
