Health and Safety

If you are suffering from a persistent cough or should you unfortunately contract flu or any other serious infectious disease or have been in contact with someone similarly ill, please rebook for another time, if only out of compassion for the teacher and other meditators.

Please inform us of any disabilities since as yet our facilities are minimal.

Make sure you have informed the retreat teacher of any mental illness you may have or are suffering from for which have received or are receiving medical or psychotherapeutic treatment.

Those with a serious health issue such as a severe peanut allergy, need to be aware that:

  • Satipanya is in a rural area with no GP on-call service and no one on-site has first-aid or medical training that could help you in an emergency.
  • It can take hours for an ambulance to arrive.
  • Even if someone is available to drive you to Shrewsbury hospital, the journey takes about 40 minutes or longer depending on traffic, road-works etc.
  • If you decide to come despite the associated risk, you must bring all the emergency medication you might need. For those with severe allergy, you must bring at least two EpiPens if you have been prescribed these, preferably three or more, as well as steroids and antihistamines and any other medications you have been prescribed.
  • You should also be aware that peanut butter and peanuts are part of our staples. If someone informs us of a severe peanut allergy and is coming on a short (e.g. one week) retreat, we can arrange not to serve these during the week, but it will not be possible to remove all traces of peanuts from the premises.

Satipanya cannot take any responsibility for any accidental personal physical injury sustained during your stay.

Health and Safety rules prohibit us from offering medicines - even aspirin! Please bring your own medicines, if you think you may need some.

While at the centre, please do not light any candles or incense.
